Vocational Program
Caroline County Board of Education has partnered with CCC to teach the culinary arts course at their Career and Technology Center (CCTC). The program has not been offered by the Board of Education for several years due to the absence of a commercial kitchen. This program is geared toward preparing the students for their job, and promoting the opportunity to further their education with a two or four year degree in the culinary arts. The students take the classes for two semesters in order to have better preparation by graduation. The first semester focuses on the basics of cooking and the second semester focuses on baking and writing a business plan. The students have classroom time, kitchen practicum at the church, and also participate in the internships at restaurants in the area.
The cost of this pilot class is being covered by grant money applied for by the Town of Denton on the behalf of the culinary program. Due to the success of the program and the growing interest of students in the culinary field, the Board of Education will contract with CCC and the Town of Denton to pick up the cost of running the program for the students in 2006.
Adult Training Program
This 18-week program prepares the students for entry-level positions as a commercial cook and caterer. The student learns the basic aspect of cooking, baking, kitchen operations, and dining room service. The program includes both the classroom and practical teaching. The goal is to be a stepping-stone towards a two or four year degree and/or a career as a professional chef or another food management position.
